Off Leash K9 Training Winston-Salem serves Burlington, NC, and nearby Piedmont Triad communities with training programs focused on obedience, behavior, and real-world reliability.
Why Professional Dog Training Benefits Your Dog
Off-leash obedience training helps dogs develop reliable responses to commands, which can enhance their behavior in various environments such as walks, parks, and home settings.

DISTRACTION-PROOF TRAINING
Distraction-proof training helps dogs behave reliably in busy environments. Achieving this level of reliability often requires consistent training, socialization, and exposure to distractions so dogs can stay focused and respond to commands. The 5 D’s of Training, which include distance, duration, distraction, direction, and disappearing, help solidify commands over time.

BEHAVIOR SUPPORT
Proper training can help address issues such as aggression, anxiety, and reactivity through specialized training approaches. Professional help is recommended for dogs with challenging behaviors because customized plans can better support the dog’s needs and the owner’s goals.

STRONGER OWNER-DOG BOND
Professional dog training helps create a stronger relationship built on trust and communication. Positive reinforcement supports cooperation and keeps dogs engaged while encouraging them to repeat desired behaviors.

EARLY PUPPY TRAINING
Early puppy training helps prevent behavior problems before they become harder to manage. Puppy training often focuses on housebreaking, crate training, basic commands, and good behavior habits. Socialization also helps puppies learn how to interact positively with other dogs and people.

BETTER TRAINING PROGRESS
Short, frequent training sessions are often more effective than one long session. Professional guidance helps owners use the right techniques, stay consistent, and make faster progress toward their training goals.

Each program focuses on obedience, recall, place command, and manners training with varying levels of distraction exposure.
Private Lesson Programs
Private dog training provides individual attention tailored to your dog’s specific needs and your training goals. Basic Obedience Training is a 4-week program with four private 1-hour lessons, one lesson per week. This program covers commands including come, sit, extended sit, down, extended down, place, extended place, out, loose leash walking, off, and break as the release command.

Specialized Training Programs
Aggressive Dog Training addresses issues like dog aggression and reactivity, providing owners with the tools to manage these behaviors effectively. While results can vary, the program is designed to help improve interactions and provide lasting strategies for control.
Therapy Dog Preparation is an 8 private lesson course designed to prepare the dog and owner for therapy dog testing and certification. This program helps dogs and owners work toward readiness, though certification is not guaranteed.
Puppy training options include the Puppy Training Consultation and AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Classes. Crate training is highly recommended for housebreaking and providing a safe space for dogs, and these programs address common behavioral issues early on to prevent them from becoming ingrained habits.

Our Dog Training Process

Step 1: Initial Assessment
Every training journey begins with understanding your dog’s current behavior, temperament, and training needs. Off Leash K9 Training Winston-Salem evaluates your dog’s personality, age, and any specific challenges you are facing. This assessment helps determine which training program aligns with your goals and lifestyle requirements.

Step 2: Program Selection
Based on the initial assessment, you can choose between board and train or private lesson options. Program details, including duration, included equipment like e-collars and training leashes, and scheduling logistics, are reviewed. Board and train programs can vary in length, commonly offered in one or two-week formats, allowing for different levels of training intensity and focus on specific behavioral goals.

Step 3: Professional Training
Dogs receive training focused on foundational commands such as sit, down, place, recall, and heel. Positive reinforcement and clear communication techniques are used to build confidence and reliability, especially in off-leash settings. Practice occurs in various environments and distraction levels appropriate to the selected program.

Step 4: Owner Education
After board and train programs, owners receive one-on-one sessions to transfer training knowledge. The 1 Week Board & Train includes a 1.5-hour owner session, while the 2-week programs include a 2-hour owner session. These sessions teach proper commands, timing, and reinforcement techniques. Positive reinforcement training is proven to be safe, humane, and effective, as dogs learn better when they are motivated and comfortable. Both 2-week board and train programs include a free refresher for life for ongoing support.
Customer Success Stories
Burlington
“We are so pleased with Off Leash K9 Training and Rick as our trainer. Winston was our second boxer who trained with Rick and we have been so pleased! Winston was 7 months old and was all puppy! Rick stayed in contact everyday and sent pics and videos. With each day we saw progress and by the time 2 weeks was up I was so impressed with Winston’s turn around. I never worried about his care and I knew he was well loved for the 2 weeks. I highly recommend Rick and Off Leash K9 training. ”

“ Definitely recommend Off Leash K9 Training. Our trainer, David, took super great care of our Millie girl and she returned home extra smart! I was apprehensive about leaving her with someone for a week as she’s still a puppy, but David was super communicative with progress updates. He stayed in touch about her well being and I never once worried that she wasn’t in good hands! Now the hard part begins – Millie teaching Mom!”
